Our annual Winter Skills course: the biggest, best and most important trip of the year. It is the only trip which we hire guides who teach you essential winter mountaineering skills like using crampons and ice axes.

You need to have come on this trip to go on any of our winter trips which includes a week long trip to Morocco during Easter.

The weekend of Week 2 next term (19th-21st January) we'll be heading up to the Cairngorms in Scotland for Winter Skills. The course will be over two days with qualified guides for a basic and advanced course.

It is £160 for the Basic Course and £180 for the Advanced which is aimed at those who did the Basic Course last year or have prior winter walking experience (knowledge of ice axe use, etc). Almost all of our grant gets poured into subsidising these courses and as a package it is certainly cheaper than going and doing one on your own.

There is also the option of "non-course" (£50), for those who have previous winter mountaineering experience and want to join those of us doing routes on our own unguided.

Hire of Ice Axe, Crampons, Harness and Helmet is included in the price. So is travel, accommodation, food on Saturday night and a fun time!

If you only plan on coming on one trip- this is the one.

(N.B. - any explicit YUMC members could you please ensure you sign up to the YUMC basic course)
